Supporting the Design of Self-Organizing Ambient Intelligent Systems Through Agent–Based Simulation
نویسندگان
چکیده
The ambient intelligence scenario depicts electronic environments that are sensitive and responsive to the presence of people. The aims of this kind of system is not necessarily to provide some form of electronic service to its users, but also to enhance the everyday experience of people moving inside the related physical environment. For this second type of application, computer simulation represents a useful way to envision the behaviour of responsive environments without actually bringing them into existence in the real world. This paper will describe the simulation of an adaptive illumination facility, a physical environment endowed with a set of sensors that perceive the presence of humans (or other entities such as dogs, bicycles, cars) and interact with a set of actuators (lights) that coordinate their state to adapt the ambient illumination to the presence and behaviours of its users. This system is made up of a model managing the self-organization of the adaptive illumination facility and an agent–based model to simulate pedestrian dynamics in the physical environment in which the system is deployed.

متن کاملA Trust Management System Through Ambient Communication for VANET
Received Apr 10 th , 2013 Revised June 18 th , 2013 Accepted June 30 th , 2013 In a VANET, the network topology is constantly changing. In fact, it requires distributed self-organizing security systems. In this article, we propose a distributed self-organizing trust management system for vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs), given the disastrous consequences of acting on false information sent by...
متن کاملDesign and Control of Self-organizing Systems PhD Dissertation presented by Carlos Gershenson
Complex systems are usually difficult to design and control. There are several particular methods for coping with complexity, but there is no general approach to build complex systems. In this thesis I propose a methodology to aid engineers in the design and control of complex systems. This is based on the description of systems as self-organizing. Starting from the agent metaphor, the methodol...
متن کاملA Context-aware Architecture for Mental Model Sharing through Semantic Movement in Intelligent Agents
Recent studies in multi-agent systems are paying increasingly more attention to the paradigm of designing intelligent agents with human inspired concepts. One of the main cognitive concepts driving the core of many recent approaches in multi agent systems is shared mental models. In this paper, we propose an architecture for sharing mental models based on a new concept called semantic movement....
متن کاملVoltage Coordination of FACTS Devices in Power Systems Using RL-Based Multi-Agent Systems
This paper describes how multi-agent system technology can be used as the underpinning platform for voltage control in power systems. In this study, some FACTS (flexible AC transmission systems) devices are properly designed to coordinate their decisions and actions in order to provide a coordinated secondary voltage control mechanism based on multi-agent theory. Each device here is modeled as ...
